Biography

Arabella Hope

I was born in Scotland in 1982. I received a Ba(Hons) in Painting and Printmaking from Glasgow School of Art in 2007. I have been living between Scotland and Berlin for the last 4 years.

My current exploration and experiments concern an exploration of landscape and migration. Landscape is something that travels with you, which lives within you. Borders are imagined, sliced and cut on maps. Barriers are made. Fences are built. The world is constructed for some as if they are looking through a veil.

My paintings are perverted landscapes, understood in the context of a rapidly changing ecology. The loneliness and melancholy that can be encapsulated in narratives of home have been lasting themes. My current work is a conversation about landscape, and the dissection of viewpoints. My work is constructed using finished paintings. These paintings are the imagined landscape realised.
